You can uninstall your router and connect your modem directly to your computer.

The D-Link DRR-655 is a wireless router with support for gigabit wired connections and 802.11N wireless connections. You most likely installed your D-Link router to wirelessly share a broadband Internet connection among multiple computers in your house. If you have decided to switch to another router or revert back to your previous setup, there are a few steps you can follow to do so. Remember that by uninstalling the router, any computers connected wirelessly to the router will lose their Internet connection.

Instructions

  1. Uninstall the Router

    • 1

Shut down your computer and unplug the router and your DSL or cable modem.

    • 2

Unplug both ends of the Ethernet cable connecting from your computer to one of the four "LAN" ports on the back of the router and set it aside.

    • 3

Unplug one end of the Ethernet cable from the "Internet" port on the back of the router. The other end of this cable should be connected to your DSL or cable modem.

    • 4

Connect the end of the Ethernet cable that was previously connected to the "Internet" port to the Ethernet port on your computer. This will connect the modem directly to your computer.

    • 5

Plug in the DSL or cable modem and allow a few minutes for it to connect to the Internet, then turn on your computer.

    Uninstall the Router Software

    • 6

Click the "Start" button and click "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel window.

    • 7

Click "Programs" then "Programs and Features." This will open a list of the installed programs on your computer.

    • 8

Click the listing for the D-Link software to highlight it.

    • 9

Click the "Uninstall" button near the top of the window. Enter your password if you are prompted for it and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall process.
