How to Upload Shortcuts Into SharePoint

In Microsoft SharePoint, you can add shortcuts to internal documents within the system or to website addresses outside of the software. In SharePoint, internal shortcuts can be transferred to a new document with little effort, but the feature for adding external URLs requires you to change the content type. The shortcuts will redirect users to another SharePoint document or website when they click on the link in the document.

Append a Shortcut From Another SharePoint Document

  • Open SharePoint and select "All Documents."

  • Right-click on the document that you want to make into a shortcut and select "Copy Shortcut."

  • Right-click in the file on top of the file name where you want to add the shortcut and select "Paste."

Add Outside URL

  • Open SharePoint and select "List Settings."

  • Click "Advanced Settings" in the List Settings menu.

  • Choose "Yes" to "Allow Management of Content Types." Then click "OK."

  • Click "Add from existing site content types," and select the content type "Link to a Document."

  • Enter the document name and URL in the New Link to a Document window. Click "OK." Your shortcut has now been added to your SharePoint document.
