How to Raise Neon Tetras
The Neon Tetra, a popular fish amongst aquarium hobbyists, is a colorful and peaceful fish that mixes well with most other community fish. The red and blue coloration on its body adds color in an aquarium, especially when kept in a shoal of 10 to 15. When provided with the proper care, Neon Tetras live for many years; however, they should be kept away from large, aggressive fish.

1
Set up a 15-gallon or larger aquarium. A new aquarium setup requires a thermometer, heater, hood and lighting, water test kit, air filter, air stone and supply line, filter and water conditioner.
-
2
Add dark substrate to the bottom of the tank, such as gravel or river sand. The dark colors will bring out the Tetra's vibrant colors.
-
-
3
Provide safe hiding spaces for the fish with plenty of aquatic plants and vegetation. Floating plants provide a Tetra-preferred dark aquarium.
-
4
Maintain a steady temperature between 70 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
5
Adjust the pH gradually to the recommended 5.0 to 7.5 level and the dH range to 1 to 2.
