How do I Format a Direct TV HD Picture on a Pioneer Plasma?

A Pioneer plasma television has five viewing modes for audio/video signals. When watching your DirecTV satellite receiver, you want to switch the TV's screen format depending on what you are watching. Older movies and regular television broadcasts use the standard 4:3 format, while premium channels and high definition programs use a widescreen format. The TV allows you to toggle through the different screen sizes at any time, or you can set the TV to select the format automatically.

Instructions

  1. Formatting the Screen Manually

    • 1

Point the remote control at the Pioneer TV.

    • 2

Press the "INPUT" button on the remote until the picture from the DirecTV receiver appears on the screen.

    • 3

Press the "SCREEN SIZE" button on the remote to toggle through the screen modes. Four-by-three mode shows standard broadcasts with bars on either side. Wide format shows 4:3 broadcasts in full screen, but stretches the picture horizontally. Full mode shows 16:9 widescreen images full screen. Zoom mode is for 16:9 letterbox broadcasts, but chops off the top and bottom of 4:3 images.

    Formatting the Screen Automatically

    • 4

Press the "HOME MENU" button on the remote, select "Option" and press "ENTER."

    • 5
