How to Put Hyperlinks on the Desktop
Creating desktop hyperlinks, or shortcuts to specific pages or sites on the Internet, is similar to bookmarking a site or page except you don't have to manually open your browser prior to opening the page. Desktop link shortcuts are ideal if you frequently visit a specific Web page. Once you've create the desktop hyperlink, you can set a custom icon for it.

Right-click on the desktop background. Click on "New." Select "Shortcut."

Type the URL of the site you want to link to the "Location of the Item" box. Be sure to include the "http://" portion.

Click on "Next." Type a name for the link shortcut. For example, if you're linking to Google, you may want to name the shortcut "Google Search" or something similar.

Click on "Finish." You'll now see the hyperlink on the desktop as a shortcut.

Double-click the item to test it. Your default Web browser should open, taking you directly to the page.

Right-click on the shortcut link and select "Properties" if you want to change the icon. Click on "Change Icon." Select the icon from the list and click on "OK."
