How to Ping Yahoo

Yahoo! offers a wide variety of Internet-related services. In some cases, you may have problems using an offered program or service. When this occurs, you may want to ping the Yahoo! servers to see if you're having a connectivity problem. Ping is a command-line utility that runs in the Windows Command Prompt. Ping allows you to send packets to a specified server with a return request. Using ping allows you to identify a possible connectivity issue between you and a host. Run ping from within the Windows Command Prompt.

  • Click "Start." Enter "Command" in the "Search programs and files" field.

  • Click "Command Prompt" in the Programs section of the search results list. This opens the Command Prompt.

  • Type "Ping" and press "Enter." This initiates the ping command to Yahoo! This sends four requests to the server. If successfully connected to Yahoo!, you should receive four replies.

If you see the message, "Request timed out" or "Ping request could not find host..." you are not connecting to Yahoo! In this case, you should confirm if you are able to connect to other servers to identify if the problem is only related to Yahoo! If you find you're not able to connect to any servers, restart your modem or call your service provider.
