How to Remove a Blur in GIMP Refocus

Save

The GNU Image Manipulation Program can help correct minor defects in photographs. A blurry image can be converted to a sharper image with a filter. The "Unsharp Mask" filter controls the radius, amount and threshold values that affect the image. The Preview box displays each value's effect before committing to the conversion. Your filtered image appears more crisply focused.

  • Open the image on the GIMP canvas.

  • Right-click the image. A list of options appears.

  • Point to "Filters." A list of filters appears.

  • Point to "Enhance." A list includes the "Unsharp Mask" option.

  • Click "Unsharp Mask." A dialog window opens.

  • Select the check box for "Preview."

  • Adjust the slider button for the radius, amount and threshold categories. A higher radius suits high-resolution images. The "Amount" refers to strength of sharpening. The "Threshold" sets the minimum difference in pixel values and retains smooth tonal transitions. The "Preview" box displays the effects.

  • Click "OK." The image appears focused.
