How to Hide SSID on a Linksys Router

Save

Linksys routers, like any other wireless router, broadcast a network ID unless properly configured. This network ID is called the Service Set Identifier (SSID) and is the name of the network to which the router is connected. You can go in to the Linksys router options and choose to hide this SSID, which can help keep your network more secure against intruders.

  • Open your Web browser and go to the router's home log-in page, which is generally set as "http://192.168.1.1" unless otherwise configured.

  • Log in to the router. The default password is "admin" unless otherwise configured, while the default username needs to be left blank.

  • Click "Wireless."

  • Click "Disabled" next to "SSID Broadcast."

  • Click "Save Settings."
