How to Share iCal Users

Shares & Saves

ICal is a free application bundled with OS X, and has features that are similar to the features of such programs such as Outlook. One such feature is Delegation, where you can share your calendar with other users on your network -- and they can do the same. Once you set up iCal sharing with other users, they can view, add, remove or edit entries on your calendar, which is useful in a home or office environment, where you need to keep track of someone's schedule.

Share an iCal Calendar

  • Open iCal.

  • Click on the "iCal" menu at the top of the window, then click on "Preferences..."

  • Click the "Accounts" tab.

  • Select the "Delegation" tab.

  • Click "Edit" to open the Manage Account Access dialog.

  • Type the name of the person you want to share your calendar with. If iCal recognizes the name, it will complete it for you.

  • Check the "Allow Write" check box next to the person's name if you want her to be able to make changes to your calendar.

  • Close the dialog box.

View Other Calendars

  • Open iCal.

  • Select "iCal" from the top menu and click "Preferences..."

  • Click the "Accounts" tab.

  • Select the "Delegation" tab.

  • Mark the "Show" check box next to the name of the person whose calendar you want to see. If his name does not appear in the list, he needs to share his calendar with you by completing the steps in Section 1.

  • Close the "Preferences" dialog box. View the calendars in the "Delegates" section of the Calendar list.
