How to Fix an iPod Nano With a Black Screen & Green Line in the Middle

An iPod Nano displaying a green line in the middle of the screen may have a problem that requires the attention of an Apple technician. Apple has some suggestions to try before taking it in to an Apple store. Most iPod Nanos are covered by a one year warranty, and you may have purchased a longer warranty. For questions about your warranty and coverage, call Apple customer service. If your iPod is still covered and you live near an Apple store, it may be faster to take it in.

  • Charge the iPod Nano for several hours to make sure the problem isn't a low battery.

  • Force reset the iPod Nano by holding down the Sleep button and the volume down button at the same time for 8-10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.

  • Restore your iPod Nano by plugging it into iTunes and clicking on the iPod, then "Restore." This will wipe all information on your iPod Nano and install the latest version of its operating system.

  • Re-sync your data to the iPod Nano after a restore.

  • Contact Apple if all of these steps don't resolve the green line.
