Milligrams or g per dL are units of measure used to describe density or mass per volume. Milligrams and g are related; such that a mg is one-thousandth of a g. You can convert mg/dL to g/dL, if you divide it by 1,000.
Be sure that your value in mg/dL is expressed as a whole number. For example 100 mg/10 dL can be simplified to 10 mg/dL, by dividing 100 by 10.
Divide the value in mg/dL by 1000 to convert the units to g/dL. For example 10 mg/dL becomes 0.01 g/dL.
Check your math by ensuring that your value in g/dL is smaller than it was in mg/dL.
