How to Fix a Disabled iPod in Lock Mode

The iPod is a personal media player that comes in several versions, such as the iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and iPod Touch. You can choose from different bandwith options, and the iPod Touch offers mobile email. You can also set your iPod to require a password before accessing the device. If you have entered your password incorrectly too many times, your iPod will lock and become disabled. Using iTunes, you can restore your iPod so that you can access its features once more.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes
  • Connect the iPod to your computer by inserting one end of its USB cable into one of the computer's USB ports and the other end into the iPod's data port.

  • Double-click the iTunes icon to open the program if it doesn't launch automatically. Double-click your iPod's icon in the "Devices" section.

  • Click "Back Up" and wait for the backup to complete. You should see a completion message. Click "Sync." This will transfer your iPod's files to your iTunes application.

  • Click "Restore." This will reset your iPod to factory settings as well as unlock and re-enable it. Wait for the restoration-complete message before disconnecting your iPod from the computer.
