How to Reset a CMS Made Simple Password

CMS Made Simple is a free and open-source content-management system. CMS Made Simple has a web-based administrative interface and the software supports the creation of any number of user accounts, each of which can have different privileges. Username "admin" corresponds to the CMS Made Simple administrator, who can create and destroy other accounts as well as reset their passwords. However, in some cases the password to the "admin" account itself needs to be reset.

  • Log in to the computer running CMS Made Simple.

  • Click "Start," type "cmd" (without quotes) into the text field and press "Enter." A Command window will open.

  • Type the following commands into the Command window:

    cd "\CMS\CMS Made Simple"

    mysql cms_users_table

    Replace "\CMS\CMS Made Simple" with the full path to your CMS Made Simple directory. Press "Enter" after each line.

  • Reset the password for the "admin" account by typing the following command into the MySQL prompt:

    UPDATE cms_users SET password = '21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3' WHERE user_id = 1;

    Press "Enter." At this point, the password for account "admin" will have been reset to "admin." You can now log in to the CMS Made Simple administrative interface using a Web browser.
