You can adjust an iMac's display settings in the System Preferences window.

By default, Mac computers ship with a display gamma of 1.8. Windows computers and most image editing programs utilize a display gamma of 2.2, causing a color shift when images created with display gamma are viewed on a Mac computer and vice versa. If you want to eliminate this color shift, you can do so easily by setting your Mac computer's display gamma to "2.2."

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Apple" icon in the computer's menu bar and select the "System Preferences..." option from the Apple menu.

    • 2

Choose the "Displays" icon beneath the "Hardware" heading.

    • 3

Click the "Calibrate" button, place a checkmark next to the "Expert Mode" option and choose the "Continue" button to continue.

    • 4

Adjust the slider on the left until the Apple image's brightness matches the brightness of the background. Adjust the slider on the left until the Apple image's color matches the color of the background. Click the "Continue" button to continue.

    • 5

Repeat Step 4 for the four remaining native luminance response tests.

    • 6

Click the "Gamma" slider and slide it to the "2.2" setting. Click the "Continue" button to continue.
