How to Get Certification for pH
The pH scale runs from zero to 14 and it measures how acidic or base a substance is. Pure water is neutral and has a pH of 7. Numbers less than 7 represent acidity, with zero being a pure acid, while numbers higher than 7 represent bases. The preferred pH for a swimming pool is 7.5, with a range from 7.2 to 7.6 being required for healthy swimming water. While you can test the water's pH yourself with a water-testing kit, you may wish to have certification in verifying the pH.

1
Call a pool maintenance company. You can find one in the phone book or by looking online, but they can test your water and take steps to ensure it stays in the proper pH range.
-
2
Request a pH test for your water. While you can get a home kit to test the pH level at any pool store, the professional reading should be more accurate and they can provide a written declaration of what your pH level was on the date it was tested.

3
Ask for the pH to be in writing on your work order or that a specific certificate be issued. This gives you legal verification that your pH levels were checked and were within safe range.

Tips & Warnings
You should still test your water twice a week to ensure it stays within the range it was when professionally checked. Keep a log of water maintenance so you know exactly what was checked when and what the levels were on each occasion.
