How to Make a Condiment Cone

You can use the condiment cup to hold your ice cream cone.

An ordinary cone-shaped condiment cup is a paper cup, shaped like an ice cream cone. Vendors often use these triangular shaped cups to serve snow cones. They also make inexpensive drink cups for water dispensers. While they are easy to hold, you can't set one down due to its pointy bottom. You can purchase a condiment cone, often made from a spirally shaped piece of wire, which perches on a stand and forms a cone-like shape in which to set the cup. Another option is to make your own condiment cone using self-hardening clay.

Instructions

    • 1

Coat the exterior of the cup with petroleum jelly. The object is to coat the cup so you can use the cup to shape your condiment cone. Without the petroleum jelly, the clay will stick to the paper cup.

    • 2

Turn the cup upside down on the work surface, so it is sitting on its brim, and the pointy side faces upwards.

    • 3

Roll out a length of clay so that it is the shape of a rope, about the thickness of a pencil and twice the length of the cup's height. Repeat until you have four equal sized ropes of clay.

    • 4

Lay the first rope over the cup so that the midway point of the rope is on the tip of the cup's bottom. Repeat with each clay rope so they are spaced equally around the cup.

    • 5

Press the clay ropes at the tip of the cup's bottom so that the clay ropes stick together at their centers and that the area on the point is flat. Add more clay if necessary to create a stand or base for the condiment cup.

    • 6

Roll out a long rope of clay, similar in thickness to the other ropes of clay.

    • 7

Wrap the rope around the cup, beginning at the pointy tip, weaving the clay in and out of the clay ropes hanging down the side of the cup. Continue until you create a basket-weave like exterior around the cup.

    • 8

Shape the ends of the clay as desired and allow the clay to thoroughly dry while leaving the cup inverted and supporting the clay condiment cone. Allow to dry according to the instructions of the clay manufacturer. Remove the cup when the condiment cone is dry and turn so that it sits on its base.
