Instructions

    • 1

Coat the bottom of a crockpot with half of your thinly-sliced onions and add pork and water or beef broth, along with the rest of the onion slices. The water or broth added to the pulled pork is the key to getting tender meat and having it shred easily. Cover crockpot or slow cooker and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours or high heat for 4 to 6 hours.

    • 2

Drain liquid from the crockpot and add barbecue sauce to the pork, along with chopped onion. Your pork should be tender at this point so you can stir in the barbecue sauce. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 2 hours. Stir occasionally, every 30 minutes or so.

    • 3

Serve on hamburger buns for a sandwich or serve it alone. Your pulled pork will be tender, and if you have bone-in pork you may discard the bone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your pork seems dry, add more water to the crockpot.

  • Barbecue sauce is optional and you may prepare this recipe without it.
