Instructions

    • 1

Write your condolence letter on stationery. Choose simple, plain stationery, rather than stationery with polka dots, flowers or other cheerful symbols.

    • 2

Write your condolence letter by hand, in blue or black ink. Do not type the letter, as that can seem impersonal.

    • 3

Address the condolence letter to the bereaved person with whom you are the closest. If you are close with several people in the deceased person's family, you can write several letters.

    • 4

Begin the letter by expressing how sorry you are about the the loss and how much you will miss the person who passed away, if you were close to him.

    • 5

Add a personal memory about the person, if you were close enough that you spent time together. If this would seem false, simply add a statement about his character or accomplishments. Do not mention how he died or how he may have suffered before his death.

    • 6

End the condolence letter by offering your assistance to the bereaved with anything she might need during her time of suffering.
