How to Learn the Torah
Studying the Torah is an integral part of the Jewish faith. It is the basis for all Jewish laws, customs and traditions. The Torah is written in Biblical Hebrew, which differs slightly from Modern Hebrew. The Torah is traditionally chanted by a cantor. Although part of the religious commandments for Jews, learning the Torah also offers interesting insights into Judaism.

Go to a synagogue, library, or bookstore to purchase or borrow a copy of the Torah. Jewish scriptures are often found in the form of a book called the "Chumash." Select an edition that has both the Hebrew and English translation.

Attend a synagogue, Hebrew school or Torah study classes weekly. This will help you learn and interpret the Torah.

Work your way through the five books of the Torah. Be sure to also note any relevant commentaries, or midrash. This additional Talmud commentaries will help broaden your understanding of the Torah.

Although you do not need to be fluent in Hebrew to learn the Torah, you may find it helpful to take some Hebrew classes.
