How to Knit a Diamond Cable
Working cables into your knitting adds texture to your project. The diamond cable is a popular choice and, although it takes a lot of rows to complete, it is fairly simple to work. Practice the cabling with a cable needle to get used to how the stitches cross and the gauge differences in the cable project. Work a gauge swatch and add extra stitches as necessary to accommodate the cabling. Cables pull in the stitches, creating a denser, tighter knit.

Knit six stitches, purl four stitches, then knit six stitches on row one. On all other odd numbered rows, knit each knit stitch as you come to it and purl each purl stitch as you come to it. The knit stitches look like a flat "v" and the purl stitches look like a little bump.
