How to Set Up SweetCron in GoDaddy

SweetCron is an open source blogging application similar to Wordpress and Movable Type. The SweetCron web application allows you to set up a functioning website and blog without knowledge of web programming. Like other blogging engines, SweetCron requires a web server that is PHP-ready and a dedicated MySQL database. If you have a GoDaddy hosting package, everything required for SweetCron to run is included with your subscription. There are just a few steps necessary to turn everything on.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your GoDaddy account using the user name and password set up during the purchase of your hosting package.

    • 2

Click "Web Hosting" under the "My Products" section and then click "Launch" next to the hosting package/website where you want to install SweetCron.

    • 3

Click on the "MySQL" database type (this is the only option for Linux hosting) in the "Databases" section of the Hosting Control Center and then click "Create Database."

    • 4

Enter the required information in the database setup fields, including a username and password, which are used to configure SweetCron. Click "OK" to begin installation of the database on your server. This takes at least one hour.

    • 5

Download SweetCron from the release website. (see Resources)

    • 6

Open an FTP connection to your GoDaddy website server and copy the SweetCron setup files (all the files in the SweetCron download) onto the server.

    • 7

Browse to the file "system/application/config/" on your website server. Find the file named "config-sample.php" and edit the filename to be "config.php" This is the configuration file SweetCron uses to setup your installation.

    • 8

Edit the "config.php" from the server. If your FTP client doesn't allow you to edit documents, edit the file on your local computer and then place it on the server. In the file, find the line with "http://www.your-site.com/" and replace it with the full URL for your website, including the last slash. Save the file after making changes.

    • 9

Browse to "system/application/config/" via the FTP client. Find a file named "database-sample.php" and change it to "database.php."

    • 10

Open the "database.php" file and add your database user name, password and database name in the spaces provided. Save the file.

    • 11

Open a web browser and point it to your URL. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete SweetCron installation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't add extra spaces or text to config.php or database.php files when editing. This will disable some of the site's functionality.
