How to Reduce the Size of the Pop-Up Box on My Google Maps

When you load Google Maps, you are presented with two primary sections of the application. The first is a box on the left-hand side that contains useful links, and the second is the map itself. This map shows you your default location and takes up well over half the screen. However, if you want the map to occupy all of the available space, you can use a built-in command in the Google Maps interface to minimize the box that pops up with it.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to Google Maps at maps.google.com.

    • 2

Enter the address or coordinates of the area that you want to view in the search box and then click the blue search icon.

    • 3

Point the mouse cursor to the blue "My Places" link within the box. Click the gray arrow to the right of this link to minimize the box.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to use the "Get Directions" or "My Places" functions that this box contains, simply click the gray arrow located on the upper left-hand side of the screen to restore it to its original position.
