How to do a Spanish Chignon
An updo hairstyle for women, the chignon features an elegant bun at the nape of the neck. A Spanish chignon is a variation of the hairstyle popularized by female Spanish flamenco dancers. When they perform their dramatic, elegant art, the dancers typically dress in traditional Spanish dresses from Spain's southern Andalucía region, with fringed shawls over their shoulders, high heels and a neat chignon updo hairstyle accessorized with flowers. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Part your hair in the middle with a comb.
-
2
Brush your hair down straight and smooth with a hair brush. If you have naturally curly hair and want a sleeker, dramatic-looking Spanish chignon, straighten your hair with a flat iron first. Brush your hair close to your head.
-
-
3
Brush a little hair gel through your hair.
-
4
Gather all your hair together close at the nape of your neck. You can center it or have it slightly off to one side for an asymmetrical look. Take the ponytail holder and tightly wrap it around your hair to create a low ponytail.
-
5
Carefully and neatly twist your ponytail around the base of the ponytail holder. Aim to create a neat and full chignon bun. Tuck the ends of your hair into the chignon and secure with bobby pins. If you find that your hair is not as neat or as sleek as you would like, apply some more hair gel to the hair in your ponytail and try again.

6
Clip the fake flowers on the top of your head, under the bun or beside the bun, depending on your desired look. For best results, use two flower clips.
-
7
Apply a light-to-medium dusting of hairspray all over your hair and on the clips, if you want to make sure they stay in place. However, if you don't want hairspray directly on the clips or flowers, apply the hairspray before you put on the clips.
