Mediacom Phone Troubleshooting

Mediacom offers a home telephone service that runs over your existing cable Internet.

Mediacom Communications is a cable company that services over 1,500 communities throughout the United States. The company offers broadband services such as digital telephone and high-speed cable Internet. Starting out as a cable company in 1995, Mediacom has expanded its reach and product offerings. The company's digital telephone service offers three-way calling, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and call blocking, all bundled in with the basic phone service. This service uses cable Internet to make calls over, so troubleshooting requires dealing with not only the phone modem, but the Internet modem as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify modem lights and the connections in the back of the modem. The power cord, coaxial cable, phone line to Tel1 and either the Ethernet or USB cables need to be checked for a good connection in the back of the modem.

    • 2

Plug one phone directly into the modem to bypass all the phone's internal wiring. This is to see if the modem is functioning properly or if the phone or phone base is the cause of the problem.

    • 3

Unplug the power from the modem and then from the router.

    • 4

Shut down the computer that is connected to the service.

    • 5

Wait 30 seconds, then plug in the modem and wait for all the lights to come back on.

    • 6

Plug in the router and wait for all the router's lights to come on.

    • 7

      Start up your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If after all these steps are completed, the phone service still isn't working, you will need to contact Mediacom's Technical Support system at 1-855-633-4226.
