KitchenAid brand mixers are often chosen by home and professional bakers. It is important to know just how much your mixer bowl will hold before beginning a recipe.
Step 1
Look on your KitchenAid mixer's label. If it's a Professional 450 design, the bowl has a 4 qt. capacity.

Step 2
Check your mixer for a "Classic" label on the band near the Kitchen Aid logo. If it's a classic series, tilt-back style mixer, it has a 4.5 qt. bowl. Other series with 4.5 qt. bowls are the Tilt-Head Lift Stand and UltraPower Tilt-Head mixers.
Step 3
Check your mixer to see if it's part of the Commercial 5 series. These bowls have a 5 qt. bowl size. Other mixers with bowls holding 5 qts. are the Artisan, Pro 500, Professional Heavy Duty, Professional 5 Plus and UltraPower Tilt-Head Stand models and the 5 Quart Bowl Lift Stand model.
Step 4
Look for the Professional, Professional 600, or Pro Line series label on your mixer. These bowls hold up to 6 qts. The same is true of the Large Capcity Bowl Lift Stand mixer and the 6 Quart Bowl Lift Stand machine.
Step 5
Look on the bottom of the bowl, where the capacity is noted. A 4 qt. bowl will be marked "K4," a 4.5 qt. bowl "K45," a 5 qt. bowl "K5" and the 6 qt. bowl "K6."
