How to Make a Lighter Wind-Resistant
For smokers and people who light fires outside, such as campers, the wind can be a nuisance. A lighter cannot hold a flame against the wind's power even when the breeze is light. The best bet for wind-resistant lighters is a jet-torch lighter, which can be found near traditional flint lighters at most convenience stores. If the wind blows the wrong way and you find yourself in a pinch to light a fire or smoke, improvise with your own wind-resistant device.

1
Cup your hand around the lighter. Cup your hand around the lighter with the back side facing the direction in which the wind is blowing.
-
2
Use your body to block the wind. Position your body so your back is facing the direction in which the wind is blowing. Hunch your shoulders slightly over, using as much of your body as you can to block the wind. Attempt to light the lighter.

Improvise with aluminum foil. Wrap aluminum foil around the base of the lighter, creating a cape of sorts for the top of the lighter where the flame comes out. Make sure the aluminum foil does not block your fingers from sparking the flint on the lighter. The aluminum foil will be in a U-shape around the area of the lighter where the flame comes out. This will help block a light wind.

Ask a friend for help. Ask a friend to block the wind for you with his hands or body.
