How to Make a Diego Vest

Diego is the popular cousin of Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon. Diego is an adventurous child, needing his vest to help on all of his animal rescues. You can make this vest to help your little rescuer be a part of the adventure. Not just for children, any age group or size can easily use this pattern idea to make their very own Diego vest. Now anyone can dress up as Diego, for Halloween or just for fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the T-shirt sleeves around the arm seam. Save the sleeves for later use. Cut an opening down the entire middle front of the shirt. It will resemble a vest.

    • 2

Measure the length of the shirt front opening to determine the zipper length. Fold the raw edges under, pin and then sew a zipper into the front flaps of the vest.

    • 3

Cut the sleeves to look like square pockets, with the finished edge at the top. Fold under and pin the raw edges. Sew the pockets onto the front sides of the vest, approximately 2 inches from the bottom for an adult, 1 inch for a child.

    • 4

Fold under and sew the raw edges of the arm-hole openings. This will give the vest a finished look.

    • 5

Sew or use fabric glue to attach a badge to the top left front of the vest. Print a badge on paper, sticker paper, iron-on paper or cut it from another item containing the logo (see Resources).

Tips & Warnings

  • For a fast easy option for Diego's vest, do not add the zipper or sew the edges. Use a fabric marker to draw on the pockets.
