How to Insert a Footnote Marker

Footnotes are notations found at the bottom of each page of a document. The "footnote marker" is a superscript symbol or number that hints the reader about a footnote that explains or provides references for that specific text in the document. You can easily insert footnotes in common word processing programs such as Microsoft Word 2007 and OpenOffice Writer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Microsoft Word 2007 document. Point the cursor to the text that needs to be explained or referenced.

    • 2

Click the "References" tab and then the "Insert Footnote" icon. The footnote marker should automatically appear right beside the text and you will be directed to the bottom of the page where the footnotes are placed.

Type the footnote right after the footnote marker.

    OpenOffice Writer
