How to Make a Bug Fogger

During the hot and humid summer months, mosquitoes and flies can severely impede your enjoyment of the outdoors. These insects can ruin outdoor cookouts and pester partygoers. Fortunately, you can neutralize these animals by using dry ice and pesticide to create a homemade outdoor bug fogger. As the dry ice evaporates, the mosquitoes will be attracted to the carbon dioxide released. The dry ice will also release the pesticide in a fog-like mist that kills the bugs on contact and dissipates quickly. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2 lbs. pellet or block dry ice

Instructions

    • 1

Put on gloves and goggles to avoid incidental contact between the eyes or skin and the dry ice or pesticide.

    • 2

Remove the cover of the insulated cooler and place the dry ice into it using the tongs.

    • 3

Pour 4 oz. of liquid pyrethrin per acre of land into the cooler. Cover your nose and mouth with the painter's mask to avoid inhaling the pesticide fumes.

    • 4

Place the homemade fogger 5 to 6 feet high in a tree or on a scaffold in the area with the highest concentration of mosquitoes. Don't place the fogger near food or large groups of people. The dry ice should produce enough fog to last from mid-afternoon to dawn.
