How to Install a Pond Bubbler
A landscape pond adds a sense of tranquility to the landscaping around your house. In order to prevent mosquitoes from breeding on the still pond water, it needs a pond aerator or bubbler to gently keep the water stirring. An aerator also improves the oxygen level for any fish in the pond. You can install the pond aerator in an established landscape pond without disturbing any fish or plants in the pond. As you install a pond bubbler, it needs electricity to operate. Most systems operate on 110 volts, but there are some models that run on 120 volts. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select a pond bubbler designed for the depth and circumference of your landscape pond. Plan on setting the bubbler in the center of a small pond. If you have a larger pond, use two bubblers. Imagine a dividing line separating the pond into two halves. Place the bubbler in the center of each of the halves.

2
Place a sandwich bag over one end of the weighted bubbler hose. Hold the bag in place with tape. This keeps any dirt from getting into the hose during installation.

3
Slide one of the hose clamps that came with the assembly kit over the open end of the plastic tubing. Push the end of the tubing onto the air bubbler unit. Pull the hose clamp onto the end of the hose and tighten it in place, using a screwdriver.
-
4
Open the base of the bubbler. Fill the base with sand to weight the bubbler to the bottom of the landscape pond. Close the base again.
-
5
Put the pond bubbler in the pond with the aerators facing up. Depending on the size of the pond, you may have to wade out to place it. If you have a large pond, you may need to row to the location in a rowboat. Allow the weighted plastic tubing to flow along the bottom of the pond. Bring the enclosed end to the edge of the pond.
-
6
Place the pad that comes with the pump on a level surface. If the bubbler unit doesn't have a pad, place some gravel on the surface where you plan to set the pump.
-
7
Remove the tape and plastic bag. Slide a hose clamp on the open end. Push the tubing onto the connection on the electric pump. Tighten the hose clamp with a screwdriver.
-
8
Plug the electric motor into a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. Watch for bubbles to break the surface of the water.

Tips & Warnings
If the plastic hose is stiff and difficult to maneuver, soak it in warm water for a few minutes to make it more pliable.
Run the bubbler 24 hours a day year round to provide a healthy habitat for pond organisms.
