How to Edit SCR Files

Save

SCR files are Windows Screen Saver files. To edit SCR files, you need to install a third-party screen saver editing program. Screen saver editing programs are similar to video editing applications and not only organize the still image files that display when the screen saver plays, but the program edits movement, transitions and timing as well. A few screen saver editing applications are available on the Web, and one offers a free trial version of the product. Easy ScreenSaver Station from DDSoft offers a free trial version of its screen saver editor at dd2002.com. Download and install the screen saver editor prior to opening the SCR file.

  • Right-click on the SCR file to show the context menu.

  • Click the "Open With" option in the context menu.

  • Click the "Easy ScreenSaver Station" option. The SCR file opens in the editor.

  • Click the "Preview" button to view the screen saver prior to editing.

  • Click "Next." The Foreground Objects screen opens with a list of images displayed.

  • Click on an image in the list to change the displayed foreground image. Click the "Add" button and browse to a new JPG, GIF or PNG file to upload to the screen saver. Click the "Remove" button to remove an image from the list. Click "Next."

  • Click "Transitions" to edit the transitions between images. Click the clock, or type in the delay time in the "Delay" field and click the radio button next to the desired position of the image. Click "Next."

  • Check the checkbox in front of the "Protect My Creation with a Password" option, if desired. Type a password for the screen saver, and then retype the password to verify. Click "Next."

  • Click the "File" option on the top navigation bar of the program, and then click "Save" to save the edits to the SCR file.
