How to Install a Webcam on MEPIS

MEPIS is a computer operating system by Linux that boots right from a CD to your computer. It works in conjunction with your Windows-based operating system and adds new functions and sleek graphics to your computer. It is also possible to add external devices, such as webcams, to a computer running MEPIS because MEPIS has built-in webcam support.

Instructions

Install the latest version of MEPIS on your computer if you have not done so already. To do this, purchase an installer disc from a computer supply store (or from Linux directly) and insert it in your computer's disc drive.

Follow the on-screen prompts to install MEPIS on your computer.

    • 3

Place the webcam on top of your computer and plug the webcam cable into an available USB port on your computer.

Install the webcam driver on your computer if you have not done so already. This is the installer disc that came with your webcam. Insert the disc into your computer and follow the prompts to install the driver. The driver will allow your computer to communicate with the webcam.
