Instructions

    • 1

Measure your head for the headband before you start to crochet. Subtract 1 inch from the circumference measurement.

    • 2

Crochet a band. With one color of yarn, chain the number of chains needed to measure the length you calculated. Crochet one double crochet in the third chain from the hook. Double crochet in each chain to the end of the row, and turn to crochet the next row.

    • 3

Crochet one double crochet in each double crochet to the end, starting in the first double crochet from the hook. Repeat this step until the width of the band measures 1 inch.

    • 4

Make a slip-stitch knot and cut the yarn.

    • 5

Crochet a band in each of the two remaining colors, following steps 2 through 4.

    • 6

Lay the the three crocheted bands on top of each other. Single crochet one end of the three strips together. Make a slip-stitch knot, then cut the yarn and weave in the tail.

    • 7

Braid the three strips, and single crochet the remaining end together. Make a slip-stitch knot, cut the yarn and weave in tail.

    • 8

Cut the ribbon in half, and sew a length to each end of the braid.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to, crochet with a variegated red, white and blue yarn. Make three bands, all from the same yarn.

  • To make a stretchy headband that can slip over your head, crochet sock elastic along with the yarn. Sew the two ends together instead of attaching ribbons.
