How to Play PBP Files

PBP file extensions are a type of game file used for Sony Play Station Portable systems to install game demos, update the firmware and manage applications. PSP users have also used PBP files for creating homemade games and applications, as well as for hacking or modifying the PSP to download games for free. Playing a PBP file on a computer is a simple matter of downloading PBP-compatible software and then copying the file to your computer.

Things You'll Need

  • PSP Memory Stick
  • PSP
  • Search online for downloadable software for opening PBP files. PBP Packer and PSP Brew are the two most common software for managing PBP files.

  • Download the software onto your PC.

  • Insert the PSP memory stick directly into the memory card slot on your computer. If you do not have one, you can connect the PSP to your computer with a USB cord.

  • Find the PBP file on your computer. The file should appear in "My Computer" under the folder correlating with the USB port you used (for example, the E: or F: drive folder). The file will commonly name itself /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP or simply EBOOT.PBP. Right-click on the file and select "Copy" from the drop-down menu.

  • Choose a folder on your hard drive (C:) where you would like to relocate the file. Double-click on the folder so it opens, and then right-click on the empty space in the folder and select "Paste" from the drop-down menu.

  • Open the PBP managing software you downloaded, then select a PBP file by choosing "Open" from the "File" tab in the left-hand corner of the screen. The file will then open and the software will give you the option to play it.

Tips & Warnings

  • When downloading new software to your computer, follow all instructions carefully to make sure all the proper components are installed.
