How to Block Searchguide.Tds.Net Redirection

Save

Searchguide.tds.net is a third-party search engine that may find itself in your computer when you download software from the Web or when you install some kind of new toolbar. When this program is installed, it causes your searches to cease appearing in Google or Yahoo! as they should, and instead appear in a "searchguide.tds.net" window. You can block this from continuing to occur.

  • Click the "Start" menu on your computer. When the menu opens, type "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC" into the "Start Search" box at the bottom of the menu.

  • Click the "ETC" folder that appears at the top of the menu, then click "Hosts." Click "Notepad" when the screen appears asking you which program you want to use to open the program.

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page to locate the line that references "searchguide.tds.net." This line will say something such as "134.6.5.3 searchguide.tds.net."

  • Scroll over this line of text to select it, then press "Ctrl" and "X" to remove it from the document.

  • Click the "File" menu and select "Save" to save the new settings.
