Some digital cameras and smartphone cameras embed a date in the image file when you take a photo. When you upload the image to a social networking site or email it to friends and contacts, anyone can discover the date on which the photo was taken by checking the image file's properties. If you'd prefer to keep the dates of your photos private, remove this embedded information with free IrfanView image editing and management software.
Click "File" followed by "Open" to open the image from which you want to remove the embedded date.
Click "Options" in the image menu, then select "JPG Lossless Operations" from the context menu.
Click the check box beside "Apply Original Exif Date/Time" to deselect this option. On some versions of the program, deselect the check box beside "Retain Exif Data." Click the "Start" button to apply the changes.
Click "File" followed by "Save" to save the changes. Repeat these steps for each image with an embedded date that you want to remove.
