How to Get Rid of Winlogon.Exe

Winlogon.exe is an actual Windows file that is responsible for logging in and out of Windows. This file resides in the System32 folder on your computer. However, there is also a spyware file with the same name that loads onto your computer without your knowledge and wreaks havoc. You can easily remove this fraudulent file in a few simple steps.

  • Click "Start" and "Search." Type "cmd" in the search box, and press "Enter." This will launch the Command window.

  • Type: "taskkill/IM winlogon.exe" at the command prompt, and press "Enter."

  • Restart your computer, and press the "F8" key repeatedly on your keyboard until you see the Boot Options menu.

  • Choose "Boot in Safe Mode," and press "Enter."

  • Click "Start" and then "Computer." Double-click on the "C:" drive to get into it. Locate the "Program Files" folder, and double-click on it to open it. Look for "winlogon.exe." Right-click on "winlogon.exe," and select "Delete" to remove it from your computer.

  • Restart your computer.
