Knees can develop callouses, dry skin and dark discolorations, just like elbows. If you want a natural beauty aid to help improve the appearance of your knees, just juice a lemon. The natural citric acid content in lemons can help make your knees smoother and lighter. Applying lemon juice assists in exfoliation, the removal of dead surface skin cells. Lemon juice also has a natural bleaching effect. It has stain-removing properties and is used to fade freckles, according to the New Zealand Dermatological Society. Consult your doctor about skin problems or any medical conditions before trying any remedies.
Things You'll Need
- Lemons (preferably organic)
- Juicer (optional)
- Small, wide-mouthed glass jar with lid
- Natural sponge
- Moisturizer or natural oil such as olive oil, coconut oil or cocoa butter
Wash a lemon and cut it in half. Use a juicer to juice half of the lemon, or squeeze the juice out of the lemon half by hand into a glass container such as a small jar. Lemon juice can react with metal, plastic and certain ceramic glazes, so using glass ensures the container won't contaminate your lemon juice.
Dip a natural sponge into the lemon juice and squeeze out the excess. Rub the lemon juice on your knees, covering the rough skin area and all off the darkened skin. Avoid dripping lemon juice onto other areas of skin to avoid a lightening effect on normal-colored skin.
Leave the lemon juice on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse the lemon juice off with plain water.
Pat your knees dry and apply moisturizer. Moisturizer helps to seal in the hydration from the water and reduce the appearance of skin roughness. It also soothes the skin after the citric acid treatment.
