How Can I Make a YouTube Account with a Mobile Phone?

Save

YouTube is the Internet's largest provider of streamed video content, as well as one of the Internet's most visited Web sites, according to Alexa, a Web site traffic monitoring site. If you frequently use your mobile phone to browse the Web, you might want to visit YouTube. When you visit YouTube on a mobile browser, it redirects automatically to YouTube's mobile site, m.youtube.com, which allows you to log in and view videos. However, YouTube's mobile site has no option to create a new account. To register a new YouTube account on a mobile phone, you must navigate from the mobile site to the desktop version you would normally see on a computer.

Things You'll Need

  • Wireless data plan
  • Start your phone's Internet browser, and wait for it to connect to the Internet.

  • Visit youtube.com on your phone's browser.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the "Desktop" link. You can find this link all the way at the bottom, just above the YouTube copyright notice. The browser redirects to YouTube's regular Web site, which it has not optimized for mobile use.

  • Zoom in to the page on the phone's browser until you can read the text on your phone's screen clearly.

  • Click the blue "Create Account" button near the upper-left corner of the page.

  • Type your e-mail address and user name in the appropriate fields of the sign-up form.

  • Select your location from the drop-down menu, and enter your ZIP code in the "Zip Code" field.

  • Click the radio button next to your gender.

  • Uncheck the box to disallow other users from finding you if they have your e-mail address. YouTube checks this option by default.

  • Check the box next to the appropriate option if you would like to receive correspondence from YouTube and its advertisers.

  • Click anywhere in the field of the terms of use, and review them by scrolling down and reading the text.

  • Scroll down the page, and click the "I accept" button, indicating that you have reviewed and accept YouTube's policies and terms of use.

  • Check your e-mail for a notice that you have successfully registered a YouTube account. This e-mail might contain a link for you to create a password, if you haven't linked the account to a Gmail account. If so, click the link and follow the on-screen instructions to register a password for your YouTube account.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use a Gmail account to register your YouTube account, YouTube prompts you to link your Gmail account with your YouTube account so that when you log in to one, you automatically log in to the other. Enter your password in the screen after the registration form, and then click the "Link Accounts" button beneath the form. If you don't use a Google account for your YouTube account, you will receive a confirmation e-mail prompting you to create a password for your account.
  • Your user name can contain only letters and numbers.
  • On a Web browser, YouTube automatically notifies you if your user name isn't available to register by displaying a "Username not available" notice beneath the user name field in the sign-up form. Depending on your phone's browser-configuration, the phone browser might not display this notice automatically. Instead, YouTube must refresh the registration form to notify you that your user name isn't available after you click the "I accept" button. You might have to re-enter some or all of your registration information when the form refreshes.
  • Some phones don't allow you to click links from an e-mail, so you might have to cut and paste the password-creation URL from the confirmation e-mail into your phone's browser.
