How to Prevent iPhone Data Access, Only Wi-Fi


Preventing your iPhone from accessing data on your phone for apps can help keep your data usage charges down. Enabling Wi-Fi on your phone is free, and you can use it access the Internet on your phone while data is disabled. Although you can still access the Internet and use data-dependent apps, you will not receive any multimedia messages. The settings for both the Wi-Fi and data may be changed at any time from within the iPhone's settings menu.

  • Press the "Home" button on your iPhone, then touch the "Settings" icon.

  • Touch "General," then touch "Network."

  • Touch the field next to "Cellular Data" to turn off the feature. The field should display the word "Off."

  • Touch "General" at the top of the screen to go back, then touch "Settings."

  • Touch "Wi-Fi" to view the settings for the feature on your phone.

  • Touch the field next to "Wi-Fi" to enable it, then touch the network to which you want to connect your phone. Enter the security settings if prompted.

  • Press the "Home" button to exit to the iPhone's home screen.
