How to Use Anchor Roller

An anchor roller is a device made from a round piece of hard rubber, tapered to the center with a hole going through its axis to accommodate mounting hardware. Anchor rollers normally mount on the bow pulpits of boats and serve as guides for anchor line and/or anchor chain as well as the anchor so that when the boat's windlass pulls up the anchor, there is no damage to the boat and the anchor pulls back properly onto the bow pulpit.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the windlass. The anchor roller allows the anchor to roll off the front of the bow pulpit with the anchor line in the center of the V-shaped portion of the anchor roller. As the anchor drops in the water, the anchor roller serves as a guide for the anchor line and does not allow it to move from the bow pulpit.

Remove the anchor line from the anchor roller and tie it to a deck cleat while the boat is at anchor.

Remove the anchor line from the deck cleat and place it into the V-shaped portion of the anchor roller. Engage the windlass to start taking in anchor line. The anchor roller will keep the anchor line in a straight line between the anchor and the windlass as well as acting as a guide for the anchor when pulling it back onto the bow pulpit.
