Adobe InDesign is one of the world's leading desktop publishing applications. Aimed at design and layout professionals, InDesign allows users to create a wide range of print publications, including brochures, newsletters, books, magazines, catalogs and forms. The process of automatically collecting the document, image and font files for distribution in InDesign is known as packaging. Once you know how to use InDesign's Package feature, the collection process becomes a quick task.

Open your document in Adobe InDesign.

Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Package."

Enter your contact information in the corresponding fields. Also provide any notes or special instructions for your printer or editor in the "Instructions" fields, then click "Continue."

Provide a name for the folder where your publication's components will be packaged in the resulting dialog box. Select a save location as well.

Select the components you want to export along with your document (e.g., fonts, graphics) from the list of options at the bottom of the dialog box.

Click the "Package" button. Your publication is packaged and saved to the folder you selected in Step 4.

Tips

Run your document through the preflight process before using the Package feature to avoid missing files or other errors. Click "File" in the top menu bar, select "Preflight," and review the summary information. If any fonts, links or images are missing, or if color and ink settings are not properly specified, the Preflight feature explains the problems and allows you to make corrections quickly and easily.
