A basic color wheel

With a little time and patience, you can create the color gold on a color wheel by mixing basic colors. It is possible for you to do it for both traditional mediums, such as paints and dyes, or for web and print.

Step 2

Lighten your dark brown by mixing it with white. Start off with a small amount of brown. Add more yellow to your light brown color to make a pale gold color.

Step 3

Keep alternating your brown and yellow colors until you get the desired gold color. If your gold is still too dark, keep adding white to lighten it.

Web or Print

Step 1

To make the color gold for web or print, start off with the color yellow (#ffff00) on your color wheel. You can use the 4096 color wheel or another color wheel of your choice.

Step 2

Color wheels come in either RGB or CMYK. RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue, the main colors used to mix a variety of colors for web or print. CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and the Key color (black). CMYK mixes ready-mixed colors for web or print to make other colors. Move over the different colors to make your gold color.

Step 3

Move your cursor closer to the orange hues between yellow and red to get your gold color. To get more of a bright gold color, move your cursor towards the yellow hues. To lighten your gold color, move closer to white. To darken it, move it closer to black.
