How to Cure Razor Rashes thumbnail
Razor burn can be painful and last for several days if untreated.

If you shave without proper lather, you may get razor rash. This skin irritation occurs on men and women and is noticeable during or directly after shaving the area. Shaving without lather will leave the skin exposed and raw; the skin may pull or the hair will be cut too short, both of which can lead to skin irritation. Once razor burn occurs, take the proper steps to relieve the pain or discomfort with home remedies. Prevent razor rash by always applying a proper cream while shaving and a moisturizer directly afterward. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Rub Aloe vera on the area to relieve pain and reduce any swelling. The razor rash may cause little red bumps that will tingle or sting if you run your hands over them. Applying aloe will help to minimize discomfort and protect the skin from infections due to razor burn.

    • 2

Mash up a handful of strawberries with 1 tbsp. of sour cream. The acid from the strawberries will relieve discomfort and promote healing. Leave the mixture on the leg for up to 30 minutes and then wash off with cool water.

    • 3

Combine 8 oz. of plain yogurt with 1 tsp. of turmeric powder. Mix well to ensure the powder is distributed evenly throughout the yogurt. Apply the mixture to the area and leave until it begins to harden, usually about one hour. Rinse the mixture off with cool water.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply witch hazel to the area to help with soothing.

  • Shave in the direction of your natural hair growth. Shaving too close will cause razor burn.

  • The best time to shave is during a shower or bath because the hair follicles are soft and the pores are open.

  • Apply a moisturizer directly after shaving.

  • Avoid shaving on bare, dry skin to prevent razor burn.
