How to Make 3D Stairway Art

Drawing or painting a set of 3D stairs is an easy process. Using basic shapes and straight lines, even a beginning artist can render stairs in 3D. Due to its simplicity and the 3D techniques drawing a set of stairs can illustrate, it is also an effective way for beginners to grasp the concept of rendering drawings with depth.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a rectangle on your drawing surface. The rectangle can be any size you want it to be, depending upon how large you want the stairs to be. This rectangle is the front of the first step and will act as the foundation for all the others.

    • 2

Draw two vertical lines, one beginning at the upper left corner of the rectangle and the other beginning at the upper right. The length of the vertical line will depend on the distance you want between one step and the next. The space created between the vertical lines is the face of the next step in line.

    • 3

Draw a horizontal line connecting the top of the two vertical lines. This will form the bottom line of the next step in line. Continue drawing these same lines until you have completed the number of steps you need. If you are going to have a lot of steps, gradually decrease the size of the steps to show them further away.

Color or paint your stairs. Make the base coat brown, then blend in some black to help give them a textured look. This will give you a basic set of wooden stairs.
