How to Install a Yahoo Key on Drupal

The Yahoo! Site Explorer feature lets you easily add your website to the Yahoo! search engine, but for Yahoo! to index your site, you first need to verify your site using a Yahoo! authentication key. You can either use the HTML verification key or the meta tag. Each method is simple, but the HTML verification file is ideal because it remains even if you remove Drupal to install another content management system.

Instructions

  1. Yahoo! Verification Key

    • 1

Access your Yahoo! Site Explorer account and click on the site you want to add the key to.

    • 2

Click on "Authentication," select "By uploading a verification file" and click the "Download" button to download the Yahoo! key.

    • 3

Upload the HTML file to the base Drupal installation folder. Do not place the file in a subfolder of Drupal.

    • 4

Click on "Ready to Authenticate" in the Yahoo! Site Explorer window when the file is uploaded. The key is now installed and your site is verified.

    Yahoo! Meta Key

    • 5

Access your Yahoo! Site Explorer account and click on the applicable site.

    • 6

Click on "Authentication," then on "By adding a meta tag." Highlight and copy the Yahoo! meta tag key.

    • 7

Sign in to your Drupal admin page and click on "Structure," then "Meta Tags."

    • 8

Click on "Use front page meta tags."

    • 9

Paste the Yahoo! meta key into the "Description" box.

Tips & Warnings

  • To upload files to your site, consult your Web host. Most hosts offer online file managers. If not, contact your host and find out your FTP host name, username and password, and access your server using an FTP program.
