How to Build Indoor Bow Targets
Archery targets can be quite expensive, especially for the dedicated archer. In addition to the initial cost, targets require frequent replacement as they breakdown from use. It is possible, however, to build an indoor archery target that will be easy to create and inexpensive to replace.
Things You'll Need
- 4 compressed hay bales
- Burlap sack or feed sack
- Rags, plastic bags, spray foam or carpet fragments
- Monofilament line or zip ties

1
Stack compressed hay bales two wide and two tall. This will serve as a backdrop to the target, catching any stray arrows. Unlike a standard hay bale, the compressed hay bale is dense enough to stop arrows at point blank range.
-
2
Fill the burlap or feed sack with the rags, plastic bags, spray foam or carpet fragments. Carpet fragments or spray foam work best because of their density. Pack the sack as tightly as possible, while still leaving a few inches of material at the top.

3
Sew the top shut using the monofilament line. You can also seal the top using zip ties.
-
4
Place the bag on the ground in front of your compressed hay backdrop to make a target. Alternately, you can also hang the bag from the backdrop using hooks.
