How to Delete Unread Email in Deleted Items
Email clients and services typically offer a folder structure where messages are stored. These folders typically consist of a delete items folder or a trash folder. This is where items that you have deleted from your email client or your email service reside. At times, you may need to delete an unread message when there is a threat that it may contain a virus.

Launch your email client or log in to your online account.

Click the "Deleted Items" or "Trash" folder.

Highlight the email message you want to delete. Right-click on it and choose "Delete" or click the "Delete" or "Delete Forever" button in your email client or email Web page if there is one available. Do not double-click the email message, because it will open.

Click "Yes" if the email program prompts you for confirmation that you want to delete the message.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using a Web-based email client, you may need to place a check mark next to the unread message you want to remove in the deleted messages folder. Then, click the "Delete" or "Delete Forever" option to delete that message without opening it.
