How to Remove Your Name From the "Do Not Call" List

The National Do Not Call Registry is a federally operated service that limits the phone numbers that telemarketers can call. When you register your phone number with the Do Not Call Registry, telemarketers are required to remove your name and number from their call lists within 31 days. If you change you mind about being listed on the Do Not Call Registry, you can call the Federal Trade Commission and request that your number be removed from the list.
Go to the Federal Trade Commission website and click on the "Consumer Protection" tab. Go to "Consumer Information" and find the "Consumer Categories" list. (In late 2010, this list was on the left side of the relevant page.) Mouse over "Telemarketing and Telephone Services", and click on "National Do Not Call Registry".
Click on "FTC's Do Not Call Registry", which is listed under "microsites". From there, go to the far left of the page and click on "Delete a Registration?"
Read all the information on deleting your registration from the Do Not Call Registry. Find the toll-free number and write it down.
Call the toll-free number at 1-888-382-1222. It is important that you make this call on the phone you wish to delete from the registry. After your call, you will be removed from the registry by the next day.
