How to Make a Rat Leash

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the rat around the neck and around the belly.

    • 2

Measure out a strip of leather for the leash, neck and the belly and mark the leather with the chalk. Measure each strip 3 inches longer than the measurement and 1.5 inches wide. Make the leash part approximately 2 feet long or a desired length, making sure that you add enough leather at the end to loop the leather around your wrist.

    • 3

Cut the pieces out using the rotary cutter on the cutting mat.

    • 4

Fold over the edge of the leash to make a wrist loop. Glue the edge to the leash. Thread the awl with the wax thread and sew over the glued area to secure it according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 5

Attach the buckles to the belly and neck straps. Fold one over the center part of the buckle and glue it into place. Secure it with the awl and wax thread. Repeat the process for the second strap.

    • 6

Attach the leash to the straps. Line up the center of the straps under the leash, beginning at the straight end. Glue the pieces into place and secure it with the awl and wax thread.

    • 7

Use the awl needle to poke a few holes into the edge of each strap for the buckles. Place each hole about half an inch apart. Try it on the rat and add holes as necessary to ensure a secure fit for your rat.
